Italian actor Riccardo Scamarcio, known for his roles in 'John Wick: Chapter 2' and 'A Haunting in Venice,' who will play Pontius Pilate in 'The Resurrection of the Christ,' the sequel to 'The Passion of the Christ' directed by Mel Gibson, will be in Buzau to participate in a meeting with the public during the sixth edition of the Buzau International Arts Festival (BIAF), a festival of theatre, film, visual arts and performances.

According to the organisers, Riccardo Scamarcio will participate in public meetings and special screenings of films from his career.

'At 46, the actor from Trani has two decades of European cinema behind him and a filmography spanning both Italian cinema and international productions. From 'Tre metri sopra il cielo,' the film that turned him into an idol for a generation, to 'Romanzo Criminale,' 'Loro,' 'John Wick: Chapter 2' and 'A Haunting in Venice,' Scamarcio has built a career in which mainstream success and auteur cinema run in parallel. He has worked with directors including Paolo Sorrentino, Ferzan Ozpetek, Giuseppe Tornatore, Woody Allen, Costa-Gavras and Abel Ferrara, while in recent years he has continued to alternate European productions with highly visible international projects. In 2024, international audiences saw him in 'Vanished into the Night,' a production that reached the global Netflix top 10. His next major international project has already been announced for 2027 and 2028: Scamarcio will play Pontius Pilate in 'The Resurrection of the Christ,' the sequel to 'The Passion of the Christ,' directed by Mel Gibson,' the BIAF organisers said in a press release.

Continuing the tradition, the special guest will participate in meetings with the public and special screenings of films from his filmography. Spectators will thus have the chance to watch films alongside one of the leading actors in the same room and ask questions about the world behind the screen.

Over the recent years, BIAF has managed to bring international actors such as Armand Assante, Franco Nero, Raoul Bova and Michele Placido before audiences in Buzau, alongside prominent figures from Romanian cinema and theatre.

Riccardo Scamarcio is one of the international guests at the sixth edition of the Buzau International Arts Festival, which runs from 14 August to 11 September.
