Acting Foreign Affairs Minister Oana Toiu and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently exchanged messages marking the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence, reaffirming the strength of the two countries' Strategic Partnership.

Toiu published on X Rubio's message thanking him for Romania's anniversary greetings.

Rubio thanked Toiu for her anniversary message, saying that as the United States marked the 250th anniversary of its founding, it reflected on the principles that had shaped the country for nearly two and a half centuries, including liberty, natural rights and the belief that freedom must be preserved and protected. He added that her message underscored the value of friendship between nations and their shared commitment to those ideals.

He voiced appreciation for Romania's partnership and goodwill.

Rubio said that, in a constantly changing world, strong partnerships based on shared values and interests made both nations stronger and that he looked forward to continued cooperation to advance peace, prosperity and the shared ideals that united the two countries.

Toiu thanked Rubio for his 'kind words of friendship.'

'Indeed, in a constantly changing world, freedom is a value we must protect. As our peoples know, it was not easily won, but today it is the foundation on which we strive to build a better future and even stronger friendships with other nations. Our Strategic Partnership is strong and valued,' Toiu said. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Oana Ghita; EN - writing by: Simona Iacob)
