Romania's acting Foreign Minister Oana Toiu and her Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha recently had a phone conversation in which they also discussed security in the Black Sea region, the Embassy of Ukraine in Bucharest reported on Friday in a social media post.

Sybiha is said to have thanked Romania for its firm support and solidarity with Ukraine and for its principled position following a new massive attack launched by Russia during the night against the neighbouring state.

'Ukraine particularly appreciates Romania's significant contribution to strengthening security in the region. The parties discussed the violation of Poland's airspace by a Russian cruise missile and expressed solidarity with our Polish friends. The acting minister of foreign affairs of Ukraine underscored the need to resume discussions on all possible options for protecting Ukraine's airspace, together with partners,' the embassy said.

Sybiha informed Toiu about the security situation on the ground and stressed 'the urgent need for the partners to accelerate the passage of all decisions on the supply to Ukraine of additional capabilities in the field of air defence, before the winter season'.

According to the embassy, the two officials also discussed energy cooperation, regional security and practical measures needed to strengthen the resilience of states in the face of common threats.

'Particular attention was paid to the challenges to global food security, generated by the Russian terror against civilian shipping in the Black Sea. We agreed to keep close contact and continue collaboration to strengthen our partnership, intensify pressure on Russia and promote our common goal - a secure, strong and united Europe,' according to the embassy.
