''Wake up, Romanian!' is more than an official song, becoming the vibration of our troubled history and the call for dignity, sovereignty and unity. Born in the context of the revolutionary effervescence of 1848 as a 'freedom march', the anthem witnessed crucial moments in the history of Romania. He enlivened the soldiers in the War of Independence and united Romanians in the trenches of the two world wars, as well as in the struggle to overthrow the communist regime and win democracy in December 1989,' said Dan.

The anthem accompanies, he added, the exceptional results, as a recognition of Romanian excellence at the international level, in science, culture or sport, and reaffirms our belonging to the great family of European nations.

'The message of the anthem remains as current for the younger generations, as a permanent push to verticality and the undertaking of courageous solutions. Today, the exhortation 'Wake up, Romanian!' acquires profoundly civic valences by encouraging education, cultivating critical spirit, rejecting disinformation and pursuing active involvement in the life of the city,' the president also said.
