Grindeanu calls on Bolojan to withdraw biodiversity strategy, otherwise responsible for loss of 1 billion euro

Image

President of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Sorin Grindeanu said on Monday evening that interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan would be directly responsible for the loss of one billion euros if he does not send the government decision on the biodiversity strategy to Parliament.

'Anyone could challenge it in the future and if the legal steps have not been followed, and in my view they have not been followed, that law [regarding the biodiversity strategy] will be overturned and we will lose one billion euros. I call on Bolojan to withdraw this law, it has not yet been published, to withdraw this government decision, excuse me, and send it to Parliament. I am calling another extraordinary session and we will pass the others as well. Otherwise, he is directly responsible for the loss of one billion euros,' Sorin Grindeanu said on Antena 3 private television station.

The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies added that he knows the reason why Ilie Bolojan has not sent the biodiversity strategy to Parliament.

'You should know that I know why Bolojan did not send the 2026-2030 biodiversity strategy to Parliament and risks losing one billion euros. I recommend that he withdraw it from publication and send it again, and next week we can hold an extraordinary session and vote on it. Otherwise, he risks, not only because of the PSD's action, that this one billion euros could be lost, anyone can challenge it and they will be right. I know why. Because this strategy clearly includes the issues that have been discussed for years: not building motorways until we obtain all kinds of absolutely absurd permits for bears when we do not have bears, for beetles, not building dams, thinking very carefully about what we do in the Black Sea. This is what is written in this strategy. If he sent it to Parliament, it would probably come out in a different form and they chose to break the law,' Grindeanu explained.

He said the law must be observed and accused the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the Save Romania Union (USR) members of making fun of him.

'They must observe the law and the law says exactly what I have told you, that they have exceeded their powers. That is why I am surprised that last week, when I made an appeal and sent letters, which were public, I sent letters to all party leaders, asking them to send all these proposals to Parliament, let us discuss them, we can hold an extraordinary session for one, two or three weeks and pass these laws that Romania needs. Some of them, from the PNL and the USR, to be clearer, mocked me in every way possible,' PSD President Sorin Grindeanu said.
