Number of seaside accommodation units,up by almost 10%; all-inclusive offer reaches over 15,000 places (analysis)

Imagine din galeria Agerpres

The number of classified accommodation units on the Romanian coast increased by almost 10% this year, to 5,386, and the accommodation capacity exceeded 156,000 places, according to an analysis carried out by a tour operator based on official data from the Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MEDAT).

'The first month of the summer season confirms the consolidation of the tourist offer on the Romanian Riviera. After the first month of summer, according to MEDAT data, 5,386 classified accommodation units are registered on the coast, up by almost 10% compared to the same period last year, when there were 4,896 units. Accommodation capacity is also increasing. After a slight decrease recorded in 2025, when 154,300 accommodation places were registered, the number of places available in classified structures this year increased by almost 2%, reaching 156,366 accommodation places,' the analysis carried out by BIBI Touroperator shows.

Thus, Constanta county concentrates over 25% of the total number of classified accommodation places in Romania, which totals 613,606 places, from almost 31,000 units.

Data shows that operators' interest in the all-inclusive segment continues to grow. This season, 70 establishments offer such services, compared to 54 last season, providing tourists with over 15,000 accommodation places.

Regarding classified holiday apartments on the coast, according to the same source, their number is 1,835, totaling 9,448 accommodation places. At national level, 7,784 holiday apartments are classified, with a total of 38,074 places.

The analysis reveals that rates are generally maintained at a level comparable to last year's in the 2026 summer season, even if some units have applied increases of up to 10%, hoteliers instead relying on promotional campaigns and last minute offers, with discounts of up to 33%.

Regarding the quality of the beaches, the Romanian coastline has five Blue Flag certified beaches in the 2026 season: two in Mamaia Nord, two in Eforie and one in Olimp. At the same time, a sixth beach, located in Eforie Sud, is in the process of obtaining certification.

Reservation data shows that the most sought-after seaside destinations remain Mamaia, Eforie Nord and Venus, which account for approximately 55% of total reservations.

Tourism representatives believe that the halving of the value of holiday vouchers and the austerity measures have led tourists to be more cautious, to compare offers more carefully and to book their holidays closer to the departure date, estimating a 20-25% decline in domestic tourism for this season.

'For the tourism industry, 2026 resembles a 'half-pandemic'. If in 2020 domestic tourism recorded decreases of approximately 50%, this season the effects of the reduction in holiday vouchers and austerity measures translate into an estimated 20-25% decline. The difference is that now the market is free, but purchasing power is what limits the travel decision. The halving of the value of holiday vouchers has put pressure on both tourists and tourism operators. However, the market has demonstrated a remarkable capacity to adapt. Hoteliers have not responded with generalized price increases, but rather through investments in services, flexibility and consistent promotions, including significant last-minute discounts. After the first month of summer, we believe that Romanian tourism can remain competitive even in a difficult economic context. For 'To continue to invest and develop, the industry needs predictability and public policies that encourage, not discourage, domestic tourism consumption,' said Adrian Voican, vice president of the National Association of Travel Agencies in Romania (ANAT) and president of BIBI Group4Travel, quoted in the press release.

He also stated that the Romanian Riviera continues to invest in increasing the quality of services and diversifying the tourist experience, and in addition to the accommodation offer and tourist facilities, the month of July brings to the seaside a rich calendar of cultural, sports and entertainment events, which complete the seaside holiday experience.
