The mine hunter M 271 'Captain Constantin Dumitrescu' participates in the tenth activation of the MCM BLACK SEA (Mine Countermeasures Black Sea Task Group), between June 13-26, a regional initiative developed by Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey, to combat the danger posed by sea mines and to maintain a high level of maritime security in the Black Sea.

According to the Romanian Naval Forces (FNR), along with the Romanian ship, the naval group also includes two ships belonging to the Turkish Naval Forces, the auxiliary ship TCG Ustegmen Arif Ekmekci (A-575) and the minehunter TCG AYVALIK (M-267), as well as the maritime dredger BGS PRIBOY (MS-63) from the Bulgarian Naval Forces.

'MCM BLACK SEA represents a concrete example of cooperation between partner states in the region, demonstrating that security challenges can be effectively addressed through coordination, interoperability and joint commitment. In the current security context, this regional initiative contributes to strengthening stability in the Black Sea, protecting freedom of navigation and increasing the response capacity to possible security threats,' the press release sent by the FNR on Wednesday states.

By participating in MCM BS TG missions, the Romanian Naval Forces reaffirm their commitment to promoting maritime security and strengthening regional cooperation, for the benefit of all riparian states and the international community.

'Since the beginning of the proximity war, the Romanian Naval Forces have been systematically carrying out surveillance and monitoring missions at sea and on the river. (...) At the same time, Operation Plans are being developed and implemented to strengthen the security of maritime and river borders, ensure freedom of navigation and increase the protection of critical infrastructure in the Black Sea, including training sequences and actions for monitoring, discovery and surveillance of unmanned aerial, surface or submerged systems,' the statement added.

Among the measures taken by the Romanian Naval Forces, there are the transmission of notices to sailors, to signal dangers to the safety of maritime traffic, the recommendation of safe roads and passages for navigation, the permanent provision of high-response capabilities, for on-call intervention in the event of incidents, as well as information exchanges and joint actions in an inter-institutional and allied context to optimize measures to ensure the security of the area of responsibility.AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Nona Jalba, editing by: Marius Fratila;EN - writing by: Catalin Cristian Trandafir)
