Writer Gabriela Adamesteanu, visual artist Dan Perjovschi among featured guests at Munich Literature Festival
The 16th edition of the Munich Literature Festival, which opens on Tuesday, will feature a strong Romanian presence, with writer Gabriela Adamesteanu, visual artist Dan Perjovschi and screenings of Romanian films included in the program.
The German edition of Adamesteanu's acclaimed book 'Distant Voices' ('Stimmen auf Abstand'), recently published by Wallstein Verlag, will be launched on Friday evening at Literaturhaus Munich, in the presence of the author and the book's translator, German writer Jan Koneffke, the Romanian Institute for Romanian Literature said in a release. The discussion will be moderated by literary critic Carsten Hueck.
Visual artist Dan Perjovschi will be present throughout the festival, which runs until April 30, offering spontaneous visual reactions to the themes addressed. On Saturday at 2:30 p.m., he will join festival curator Dana Grigorcea for a discussion on art as a form of resistance, held in the foyer of Literaturhaus Munich.
On Thursday, April 30, at 6:30 p.m., the same venue will host an event dedicated to Saxon writer and pastor Eginald Schlattner. Michaela Nowotnick, Professor at Humboldt University, and German writer Ingo Schulze, president of the German Academy for Language and Poetry, will take part in the debate, moderated by Robert Schwartz, president and director general of the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Corporation.
Two Romanian films will also be screened during the festival: on Friday at 10:00 p.m., the documentary 'Colectiv', directed by Alexander Nanau, and on Tuesday, April 28, at 10:00 p.m., the feature film 'Aferim!', directed by Radu Jude.
