Pro-Bolojan rally in Victoriei Square; several hundred people show their support for prime minister
Several hundred people gathered Monday evening in Victory Square in the capital to show their support for Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, after the Social Democratic Party (PSD) decided to withdraw its political backing.
The protesters are gathered in the square in front of the Government building and are peacefully protesting the Social Democrats' decision to no longer support Bolojan as head of the Government. Some of the participants are waving the Romanian flag and the EU flag.
Among the protesters was Radu Berceanu, a former minister in the Calin Popescu Tariceanu and Boc II governments, who was removed from the crowd by gendarmes after some of the participants recognized him and began booing him.
The Social Democratic Party decided on Monday to withdraw its political support for Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan — 97.7% of Social Democrats voted 'in favour' of withdrawing political support for Bolojan, while 2.3% voted 'against.'
