Germany - an important trading partner for Romanian companies and trustworthy partner for Romania (ambassador)

Romania offers an attractive investment environment, a skilled workforce and a strategic position in Europe, while Germany remains an important trading partner for Romanian companies, ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Romania Angela Ganninger said at the official launch of the publication 'Economic Relations between Romania and Germany - A Success Story'.

'The relations between Germany and Romania are marked by a long tradition of friendship and cooperation. In recent years, these relations have intensified and evolved into a dynamic partnership reflected across politics, society and the economy. At the German Embassy in Bucharest, as well as at the Consulates in Sibiu and Timisoara, we regularly meet representatives of German and Romanian companies. We attend inaugurations of new production units, celebrate the long-standing success of Romanian companies - many of which are marking 20, 25 or even 30 years of activity - and observe cooperation between companies, schools and universities. We witness new partnerships emerging through conferences and delegation visits. In short, we see numerous examples of German and Romanian companies benefiting from collaboration, implementing innovative projects and achieving shared successes,' Ganninger said.

She mentioned that the publication highlights, among other things, the growing integration of Romanian suppliers into German and European value chains.

'One example is Airbus, which has cooperated directly or indirectly with more than 200 partners in Romania, or Easy Industry SRL, which has taken part in numerous successful joint projects with the German industry. You will also find examples of strong partnerships between Romanian companies and universities, which have led to concrete cooperation and to the steady expansion of research, development and engineering centres in Romania. Bosch, Siemens Energy, Deutsche Bank and Infineon have all established such centres in close collaboration with leading Romanian universities. The publication also includes information on training and professional development models, such as the German Vocational School Kronstadt in Brasov, as well as other initiatives,' the ambassador emphasized.

She also pointed out that in 2024, German companies paid almost 6 billion euros in direct taxes.

'Given these figures, we are confident that Romanian-German economic relations will continue to grow. Romania offers an attractive investment environment, a qualified workforce and a strategic position in Europe. Germany is an important trading partner for Romanian companies and a reliable partner for Romania,' Ganninger said.

Cristina Raiciu, Deputy Head of the German Embassy's Economic Section, presented the publication and noted that German direct investments in Romania reached 18.7 billion euros in 2024.

'We have over 10,000 active companies in Romania supporting 252,000 jobs and contributing, as mentioned earlier, almost 6 billion euros in taxes, directly financing infrastructure, health and education,' Raiciu said.

In 2025, trade between Romania and Germany amounted to 42.6 billion euros.

The German Embassy and the German-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Romania) organised on Friday an event for the official launch of the publication 'Economic Relations between Romania and Germany - A Success Story', a joint initiative of the Embassy and AHK Romania which aims to stimulate dialogue between companies in both countries and support successful, sustainable cooperation.
