Foreign Affairs Minister Toiu: Romania hub of cyber expertise; it can provide solutions to NATO as a whole
Foreign Affairs Minister Oana Toiu said on Tuesday, during a meeting with NATO's Special Coordinator for Hybrid Threats, Jean Charles Ellermann-Kingombe, that 'Romania is not merely a security beneficiary, but a cyber expertise hub ready to offer solutions to the entire Alliance'.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), NATO Assistant Secretary General for Cyber Defence and Digital Transformation and Special Coordinator for Hybrid Threats Jean Charles Ellermann-Kingombe is paying a visit to Romania.
The discussions addressed 'the hybrid and cyber threats posed by the Russian Federation against NATO Allies and like-minded partners, with a focus on the Black Sea region', reads the release.
Minister Oana Toiu underlined the importance Romania attaches to countering the Russian Federation's hybrid and cyber threats and the need to intensify cooperation among Allied states in order to tackle these challenges.
'Romania is not just a security beneficiary, but a cyber expertise hub prepared to offer solutions and lessons learned to the entire Alliance. Hosting the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre (ECCC) in Bucharest confirms our strategic role in this field. Our direct experience in managing hybrid attacks gives us an advantage in developing rapid and effective response mechanisms, which are essential for NATO's collective resilience in the face of new cyber threats,' the foreign minister said.
In the context of discussions on strengthening digital defence capabilities, Oana Toiu also highlighted the outcomes of the recent Romania-Republic of Moldova-Ukraine trilateral meeting held in Munich. Within this format, the establishment of a Cyber Triple Alliance was announced, a strategic partnership aimed at pooling the resources of the three countries to safeguard critical infrastructure and democratic processes against foreign interference, the release added.
