Deputy Prime Minister Catalin Predoiu meets in Washington with the FBI director
Deputy Prime Minister Catalin Predoiu, Minister of Internal Affairs, had a bilateral meeting in Washington on Tuesday with a delegation of the FBI leadership, consisting of the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Kash Patel, the Deputy Director of the FBI, Christopher Raia, and the Assistant Director for International Operations, Jason Kaplan.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI), the meeting represented a development of the discussion previously held in December in Washington between Minister Predoiu and the Director of the FBI.
During the meeting, the discussions focused on the concrete development of operational cooperation modalities within mixed teams of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - the General Directorate of the Interior - the Directorate General of the Interior - the FBI regarding the fight against organized international crime groups, drug trafficking, illegal migration, human trafficking, cybercrime and terrorism.
It was also agreed to develop joint professional training and specialization programs, with the support of the FBI Office in Bucharest and the FBI Police Academy in Quantico.
'The Ministry of Interior cooperates with the FBI to defend citizens and communities in Romania and the US against the most serious forms of international crime. We agreed with the FBI leadership to develop this cooperation and discussed the concrete ways to do it. We discussed and agreed with the FBI leadership on concrete proposals regarding several cooperation formats, which we advanced following the December 2025 meeting with FBI Director Kash Patel. The objective of the Ministry of Interior is to increase the level of public safety in Romania. Cooperation with the FBI serves this objective, as it brings added value for colleagues and friends in the FBI in achieving their own objectives. Through these two meetings, the one in December and the one today, we laid the foundations for this development and established concrete directions for action,' declared Minister Catalin Predoiu, quoted in the MAI press release.
