INTERVIEW/Moldovan MP/Dorin Recean warns that whole of Europe could be threatened by a possible success of pro-Russian parties
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Dorin Recean, warns that the whole of Europe could be threatened by a possible success of pro-Russian parties in Sunday's parliamentary elections.
In an interview given to AGERPRES on Friday, he states that 'a pro-Russian power will ensure that the Republic of Moldova is used as a territory from which Ukraine will be attacked first and foremost.'
The head of the Chisinau executive also talks about the preparations that the Moldovan authorities are making to prevent possible actions to destabilize the country after the election.
AGERPRES: Mr. Prime Minister, these parliamentary elections on Sunday are probably the most important in the modern history of the Republic of Moldova. Do you think that the future of this state depends on them?
Dorin Recean: I am sure that the elections of September 28 will determine whether the Republic of Moldova continues on the right path, which we are on now, so that in 2028 we will be part of the great European family. The alternative is for the Kremlin, together with criminals and criminal groups, to stop the reforms, to stop the European path of the Republic of Moldova and to use the Republic of Moldova in the regional conflict of the Russian Federation.
AGERPRES: As Prime Minister, I assume you have analyzed all possible scenarios. Which is the most pessimistic?
Dorin Recean: The most important thing now is to focus our energy and activities on protecting the vote of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and ensuring that the vote on September 28 is the one that every citizen of the Republic of Moldova wants.
AGERPRES: Can the future of the Republic of Moldova still be assured in Europe under the conditions of a pro-Russian power?
Dorin Recean: A pro-Russian power will ensure that the Republic of Moldova is used as a territory from which to attack Ukraine first and foremost, in this regional context, because we are very close here to the Odessa region, and this cannot be repaired anytime soon.
AGERPRES: Are the authorities prepared to face possible provocations from the Kremlin on Sunday evening, at the end of the vote?
Dorin Recean: Over the past few years, the Republic of Moldova has been attacked with the full spectrum of hybrid warfare tools, including attempts at destabilization. We have prepared the institutions and I trust that they will cope with all escalation scenarios with kinetic and other actions.
AGERPRES: Ukraine currently represents the shield for the Republic of Moldova. Do you think there will be attempts by Russia to force the front in the Odessa area?
Dorin Recean: Certainly, with a pro-Russian administration in Chisinau, that's what they will do. Now, this is the interest of the Russian Federation, to have a pro-Russian administration in Chisinau, so that it can use the Republic of Moldova against Ukraine, but also against the European Union.
AGERPRES: Romania is also threatened by the outcome of the elections in the Republic of Moldova. To what extent do you think these threats can become more consistent than they are at the moment?
Dorin Recean: I think that all of Europe is somehow affected by a possible failure in Chisinau (of the pro-European forces - ed. n) and a possible victory of the pro-Russian parties.
AGERPRES: Do you have any message for Moldovan citizens in Romania before this election?
Dorin Recean: I want to invite all citizens of the Republic of Moldova who live in Romania today - and I am sure there are many in Galati, Bucharest, Cluj, Timisoara, Iasi, especially in university centers - to come and vote on September 28.AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Ionut Mares EN - writing by: Catalin Cristian Trandafir)
