Romania's accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) will serve as an additional anchor for the country's modernization and for consolidating its status among established democracies, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said Monday.

The head of government made the remarks at a joint press briefing following his meeting with the OECD Secretary-General, Mathias Cormann, and after the session of the National Committee for Romania's accession to the OECD.

'Today's meeting and the committee session reflect our commitment to joining the OECD and our strong relations with the organization. Although 2025 has been marked by elections and institutional changes, one aspect has remained constant. After becoming members of NATO and the European Union, OECD accession continues to be a key objective. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development will serve as an anchor for our country's modernization and for strengthening its status among consolidated democracies. I am pleased, Mr. Secretary-General, that three years after receiving the roadmap, Romania is increasingly close to achieving this goal,' Bolojan said.

The prime minister highlighted that Romania has completed 'almost two-thirds' of the total 25 evaluations in the organization's committees and thanked all those involved in the process.

He emphasized that OECD membership will allow Romania to adopt best practices across all areas of public policy, collaborate with member and partner states to find concrete solutions to common challenges, develop more efficiently, and provide stability for citizens and the business environment.

'I also stressed these points in this morning's discussion with Secretary-General Cormann, to whom I expressed gratitude for the full support in this process. Every step brings us closer to where we want to be: greater prosperity, more investments, a more attractive economy, improved public policies through access to the organization's expertise, and a more efficient public administration,' Bolojan added.

The head of the government noted that during the National Committee meeting on Romania's OECD accession, held in the presence of the Secretary-General, the stage Romania has reached in the process was discussed in detail.

'All institutions involved are committed to implementing the organization's recommendations to complete the technical process on time. In an increasingly unpredictable geopolitical context, the OECD represents an essential platform for promoting the values we believe in: international cooperation, responsible governance, and evidence-based public policies. Our place is in the OECD, and we look forward with confidence to joining this community of states that share the same values, principles, and aspirations. Mr. Secretary-General, we thank you for your support. We are determined to do everything in our power to ensure Romania joins the OECD next year. We are fully aware of the opportunity ahead to modernize our policies and practices for better lives, as the OECD motto says: 'Better Policies for Better Lives,'' Bolojan further affirmed.
