EnviMin presents Vacaresti Natural Park to her German counterpart
The Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests, Diana Buzoianu, presented, on Saturday to the Federal Minister for the Environment, Climate Protection and Nuclear Safety, Carsten Schneider, who was on a visit to Romania, the Vacaresti Natural Park, a symbol of urban reconnection with nature, according to a post on a social network of the relevant ministry.
'I chose to present the Vacaresti Natural Park to Minister Schneider because it is a living symbol of how nature can be reborn even in the middle of cities. It is proof that investment in natural capital must go hand in hand with urban development. Vacaresti shows us that nature-based solutions are not only possible, but also essential in adapting to climate change,' declared the Romanian Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests.
During the official visit to Romania, the Federal Minister of the Environment of the Federal Republic of Germany was presented with the first urban natural park in Romania and a unique example of ecological regeneration in a metropolitan setting.
Located in the heart of the Capital, the Vacaresti Natural Park represents an oasis of urban biodiversity, with over 150 species of birds, protected species of amphibians, reptiles and mammals, as well as a wetland ecosystem of inestimable value for ecological education, climate resilience and the quality of urban life.

According to the cited source, the discussions held on site focused on the importance of urban natural areas for public health, biodiversity conservation and environmental education.
'Both sides stressed the need to more firmly include these green spaces in the European Union's climate and urban strategies. The Vacaresti Natural Park Administration is subordinated to the Bucharest City Hall and represents a model of active nature protection in the city, contributing to the reduction of heat islands, rainwater retention and connecting citizens with the environment,' the post also reads.
The visit reconfirms both countries' commitment to green, sustainable and people-centered solutions.
