Over 61,000 cases of domestic violence reported in Romania in H1 2025
The Romanian Police have announced that in the first six months of 2025, more than 61,000 cases of domestic violence were reported, in almost equal proportions in urban and rural areas.
Also, in 1,248 instances the measure of requiring the aggressor to wear an electronic monitoring device was implemented.
On the other hand, in 4,042 instances, the victims refused to force the aggressor to wear the device.
According to a press release issued by the Romanian Police on Saturday, in the first half of 2025, police officers stepped in in 61,431 cases of domestic violence, including 30,433 in urban areas and 30,998 in rural areas.
Also, the police issued 5,956 provisional protection orders, 2,271 of which were transformed into protection orders by courts.
Also, in the first six months of the year, the number of crimes related to domestic violence decreased by 19% year-on-year, from 28,117 to 22,742. Decreases were recorded in hitting and other violence (from 17,067 to 12,807), threats (from 3,574 to 2,738) and non-compliance with provisional protection orders (from 380 to 344 ).
The largest share of crimes is represented by 'hitting or other violence' - 56% (12,807 ).
In the same period, courts issued 6,483 protection orders, 2,271 of which came from provisional protection orders.
Regarding non-compliance with a protection order, 2,572 crimes were reported. At national level, 5,956 provisional protection orders were issued, 2,271 of which were transformed into protection orders.
Regarding non-compliance with a provisional protection order, 344 crimes were reported, of which 217 in urban areas and 127 in rural areas.
At the same time, in 1,248 instances, the measure of forcing the aggressor to wear an electronic monitoring device at all times was implemented.

From October 1, 2024, the Electronic Information System entered the last stage of implementation, and now the system is operational in 18 out of Romania's total 42 counties, namely Alba, Arad, Arges, Bihor, Bistrita-Nasaud, Botosani, Braila, Buzau, Dambovita, Dolj, Gorj, Hunedoara, Ialomita, Maramures, Olt, Suceava, Timis and Tulcea.
Also from October 1, 2024, the electronic system is also applied in the procedures of judicial control, judicial control under bail and house arrest, in cases where the judicial bodies order the obligation to permanently wear an electronic monitoring device against a defendant under criminal investigation.
