Constanta Dolphinarium shows to resume with team of dolphins rehomed from Ukraine
The Constanta Dolphinarium reopened on Saturday after months-long renovation, and public shows with dolphins and sea lions will resume on Sunday, president of the Constanta County Council Florin Mitroi informed in a press briefing delivered together with the new director of the Natural Sciences Museum Complex, Gelu Danut Dinca.
The performances of this summer will feature the aquatic facility's only left dolphin, as well as four cetaceans rehomed from Ukraine's Kharkiv together with their Ukrainian trainers. According to director Dinca, the contract for this season with the Ukrainian company that brought the four dolphins amounts to RON 1.9 million.
The RON 70,000 worth of works at the Dolphinarium consisted of rehabilitating all existing pools using a special paint, repairs and redevelopment of the spaces. Also, construction is underway on the new 5,000 cubic meters pool which will provide the mammals much better living conditions, but the completion is due for later, in September.
Florin Mitroi said that following the death of two of its dolphins, the Dolphinarium initiated steps to acquire three replacements, but the prices are quite high, reaching 400,000 euros for a single such cetacean.
The County Council head added that modernization works at the Aquarium are 70-80% completed and are expected to end this August.
Tickets for Dolphinarium shows plus access to the micro-reserve and exotic birds facility cost RON 66 for adults and RON 16 for pupils and students; admission for children under 7 years old is free. AGERPRES (RO - editing by: Marius Fratila; EN - writing by: Simona Klodnischi)
