Relics of St. Empress Helena to be brought to Romania on Wednesday

The relics of the Holy Empress Helena, mother of the Holy Emperor Constantine the Great, will be brought, starting on Wednesday and until May 8, on pilgrimage from Venice to the Pantocrator Monastery in Teleorman, and for a few hours they will be placed for worship in the Baldachin of the Saints near the Patriarchal Cathedral.
'It is a significant year for the Romanian Orthodox Church - we have 140 years of Autocephaly, 100 years of Patriarchate and 1,700 years since the first Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, in 325. With the help of God and the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, the tradition of pilgrimage on Myrrh-Bearing Sunday will continue at the Pantocrator Monastery. Because we, here, in the Pantocrator Monastery, have a tradition of Pilgrimage on Myrrh-Bearing Sunday. Why this? Because the main patroness of the monastery is the Holy Myrrh-Bearing, and exactly with the Apostles, Mary Magdalene. (...) This year is a special year, because we will have the joy of having, here, the entire body of the Holy Empress Helena, mother of the Holy Emperor Constantine,' the administrative vicar of the Diocese of Alexandria and Teleorman, Serafim Baciu, told AGERPRES.
Although the Saint was initially buried in Rome, her holy relics were later moved to Constantinople, in 1211 they were taken to Venice by the Crusader knights, and only in 2017, they were taken for the first time on pilgrimage, to Greece, the Basilica Agency of the Romanian Patriarchate reported on Tuesday.
Romania thus becomes the second Orthodox country to host the relics of Saint Empress Helena since they were moved to the West. The event takes place in the context of the annual pilgrimage organized at the Pantocrator Monastery on the occasion of the Sunday of the Myrrh-bearing women.
At the Pantocrator Monastery, the delegation of the Patriarchate of Venice and the venerable relics of Saint Empress Helena will be welcomed by the Bishop of Alexandria and Teleorman, His Eminence Father Galaction.
According to the Press Office of the Diocese of Alexandria and Teleorman, starting Wednesday and until May 8, the Pantocrator Monastery will be permanently open to pilgrims. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Daniel Popescu, EN - writing by: Cristina Zaharia)
