Acting President Ilie Bolojan on Tuesday relayed a message on the occasion of the Earth Day, stating that Romania has significant natural resources, but need efficient plan for their wisely use, while also reducing pollution.

He says in the message that a clean environment is an essential condition for the quality of life, our health and the sustainable development of society. Bolojan also mentions that this year's theme, 'Our Power, Our Planet,' emphasises the direct link existing between the way we manage resources, especially energy resources, and the future of the planet.

'A secure and sustainable energy system can no longer be just an optional objective, but must become a global priority,' said the acting president.

Bolojan states that in the past year Romania has adopted a new Forestry Code, which strengthens the forest protection regime, expanded and improved the Guarantee-Return System for packaging recycling and has advanced in consolidating environmental education, through dedicated policies and financing instruments.

He shows that in the energy field our country has continued the transition to green energy.

'The number of prosumers has continued to grow, especially through programmes such as the Photovoltaic Green House, and data shows that the national energy mix is becoming increasingly sustainable. Also, the most solar and wind parks in the last eight years were put into operation in 2024, and Romania became the largest natural gas producer in the European Union,' he stated.

The interim president argues that, through dialogue and joint action, public authorities, the business community and civil society have the capacity to determine the construction of a resilient energy system, pointing out that this is a strategic objective of Romania, for the achievement of which it is 'imperative to overcome all differences of opinion and logistical obstacles, so that economic development and environmental protection mutually support each other.'

'Romania has significant natural resources, from the Carpathian Mountains to the Danube Delta, and their protection is our responsibility. In this regard, we must prepare effective plans for their prudent use, while reducing sources of pollution,' states the head of state.

At the same time, he mentions that education plays an essential role, not only to transmit information about environmental protection, but also to motivate new generations to get actively involved and make a difference.

'Let us contribute daily to protecting nature, each of us, through the responsible choices we make,' concludes Ilie Bolojan. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Florentina Peia, EN - writing by: Cristina Zaharia)
