18th Hungarian Music Festival to start on Sunday with young Hungarian musicians participating hors concours
The 18th Hungarian Music Festival will take place between May 8 - 12 at the Liszt Institute in Bucharest, featuring in a first a section dedicated to Hungarian contemporary music performance, apart from the three days of competition and the awards gala.
"In addition to the well-known competition section, this year's edition also focuses on the presentation of contemporary Hungarian performing art, featuring young Hungarian guest musicians who excel in musical instruments that are unusual for our festival, such as the organ or the saxophone," the Liszt Institute informs in a release.
The 18th edition of the Hungarian Music Festival will open on Sunday with an organ recital given by Istvan Batori at the Italian Church, a show organized with the support of the Hungarian Academy of Arts in cooperation with the 'Most Holy Savior' Parish in Bucharest.
The three-day competition section will see the musicians perform in front of the public and the jury at the Liszt Institute - Hungarian Cultural Center Bucharest, followed on Thursday, May 12, by the Laureate Gala and a Duo Seleljo recital.
Sisters Erzsebet and Iren Seleljo, who had many of their concerts recorded by Bartok Radio, will play saxophone and piano in the opening of the awards gala. The program includes Claude Debussy's Rhapsody, the Romance by Leo Weiner, George Enescu's Concert piece and Fernande Decruck's Sonata.
Admission is free to all the festival concerts.
