Central Electoral Bureau: Legal provisions do not provide possibility of observing ballot recounting

Imagine din galeria Agerpres

The Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) clarified on Friday that the legal provisions do not provide for the possibility of observing the process of recounting the ballots, pointing out that for such a step, Law No. 370/2002 regarding the election of the President of Romania would need to be amended.

"As a result of information that has appeared in the public space, the Central Electoral Bureau for the 2024 Presidential Election (BEC) informs the public that the legal provisions relevant to the organisation of the 2024 presidential election do not establish the possibility of observing the ballot recount process. To extend the scope of election observation, it is necessary to amend the provisions of Article 47, paragraph (fi) of Law No. 370/2004, with subsequent amendments and additions, which stipulate that accredited individuals participate in all operations performed," reads a BEC release on Friday.
