National Museum of Art of Romania extends 'Brancusi. The Syndrome' exhibition until March 2027

The National Museum of Art of Romania announced that the exhibition 'Brancusi. The Syndrome' will be extended until 14 March 2027, on which occasion the museum is inviting the public to attend three special guided tours scheduled to take place by December.

According to a press release sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday by the National Museum of Art of Romania (MNAR), the three special guided tours, entitled 'Brancusi: Artwork and National Brand,' offer an exploration of the relationship between the artistic value of Brancusi's work and the transformation of his name into a symbol of national identity.

'How does an artist become a national symbol? How does the prestige of their work come to be used to legitimise discourses and initiatives that go beyond the sphere of art? Starting from these questions, the tours offer a two-part journey, beginning in the Brancusi Room in the Modern Romanian Art Gallery and continuing in the temporary exhibition 'Brancusi. The Syndrome.' Participants will be able to discover both the innovative power of the sculptor's work and the ways in which his personality and artistic output have influenced generations of artists and contributed to the creation of a national myth,' MNAR says.

The guided tours will be led by Judit Balint and will take place on Friday, 30 October, Saturday, 14 November and Friday, 11 December.

Each tour will last one hour and 30 minutes and begin at 16:30, with the meeting point on the ground floor of the National Gallery at the National Museum of Art of Romania.

The price is 50 lei per person, including admission to the Brancusi Room and the exhibition 'Brancusi. The Syndrome.'

Opened to mark the 150th anniversary of Constantin Brancusi's birth, the exhibition offers a critical perspective on the influence of the sculptor's work and personality on Romanian art and cultural imagination.

Curated by Judit Balint and Erwin Kessler, the exhibition explores two complementary themes: Brancusi's influence on generations of Romanian artists, from the interwar period to the present day, and how the sculptor's image has become a national, cultural and spiritual symbol over time.

The exhibition brings together works by artists including Milita Petrascu, Irina Codreanu, George Apostu, Ovidiu Maitec, Ion Irimescu, Peter Jacobi, Mircea Cantor, Iosif Kiraly, Teodor Graur and Dan Perjovschi. The works illustrate both the assimilation and reinterpretation of Brancusi's artistic language and the transformation of his image into a landmark of Romanian cultural identity.

The exhibition 'Brancusi. The Syndrome' can be visited until 14 March 2027 at the MNAR's main premises, in exhibition spaces A4, rooms 6, 7 and 8, on the ground floor of the National Gallery. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Daniel Popescu; EN - writing by: Adina Panaitescu)
