President Nicusor Dan on Friday stated that Romania would remain alongside the United States as a trusted and reliable partner, as it has demonstrated on every occasion over the years.
'Today marks 25 years since the unimaginable tragedy of September 11, 2001, and, on behalf of all Romanians, I wish to express our unwavering solidarity and deepest thoughts of compassion to President Donald Trump and the entire American people, especially the families who lost their loved ones. It is a moment when Romania and all the nations of the world remember and honour, alongside the United States, the heroism of a country and its citizens,' the Romanian head of state wrote on his X account.
He stressed that, 'beyond the horror and losses caused, the September 11 attacks revealed to the world America's courageous, strong and visionary spirit, showing how a community of nations comes together to defend a way of life and the ideals of civilisation'.
'When America called on its allies and partners to fight terrorism, Romania responded promptly and without hesitation. We will continue to stand united in defending our freedom and the values we share, for a world free from the threat of terrorism and extremism. Romania will remain alongside the United States as a trusted and reliable partner, as we have demonstrated on every occasion over the years, including through the support we have recently provided,' the President said.
Nicusor Dan noted that the bilateral Partnership 'will reach a new stage on September 13, when we will mark 15 years since the signing of the Joint Declaration on the Strategic Partnership for the 21st Century between the United States of America and Romania'.
'This fundamental document deepened our strong and dynamic ties and established the framework for our strategic cooperation,' President Nicusor Dan said.
The terrorist attacks in New York and Washington on September 11, 2001, were considered the most serious attacks on US territory in the country's history.
