President Nicusor Dan congratulated Giorgia Meloni on Friday after the government she leads became the longest-serving executive in Italy's history, with the head of state emphasizing that governmental stability ensures institutional continuity.

'Congratulations, Giorgia Meloni, on the fact that the government you lead has today become the longest-serving in Italy's history. It is a milestone that underscores the institutional continuity giving public policies the horizon needed to be effective,' the Head of State stated on the X platform.

In his message, Nicu?or Dan also highlighted the close relations between Romania and Italy, as well as the importance of the Romanian community in that country.

'Romania and Italy are linked by a Strategic Partnership with strong foundations. Over a million Romanians live and work in Italy—the largest diaspora in that country—and our economies have close ties. Italy is Romania's second-largest trading partner and the leading source of foreign-owned companies here. We are highlighting these connections through the Romania-Italy Cultural Year,' the head of state adds.

The President also mentioned the joint projects of the two states.

'I look forward to continuing our work together and co-chairing the 'Friends of Cohesion' group during the negotiations for the 2028-2034 Multiannual Financial Framework—a forum where Italy and Romania champion the shared cause of an ambitious EU budget with adequate resources for Cohesion and Agriculture—and to standing together for security along NATO's Eastern Flank and in the Black Sea region,' added Nicusor Dan.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and her cabinet set a longevity record on Friday, marking 1,413 days in office—the longest uninterrupted period of governance since the founding of the Italian Republic in 1946—dpa reported.

Meloni has surpassed the previous record—held by Silvio Berlusconi's second government—of 1,412 days, set between 2001 and 2005.

Giorgia Meloni (49), leader of the Brothers of Italy party, was sworn in on October 22, 2022, becoming the first woman to lead an Italian government.

In the post-war era, Italy has been marked by political instability and frequent changes of government. Since the republic was established 80 years ago, the country has had 68 governments, with an average lifespan of about 13 months.

The coalition led by Meloni, comprising three far-right and conservative parties, has been in power for nearly four years.

Her record applies only to the uninterrupted term of a single cabinet. If multiple governments led by the same prime minister are taken into account, Berlusconi remains in the lead, having held the office for over nine years. In such a ranking, Meloni places seventh.

Giorgia Meloni has hailed the longevity of her government as a major success. To mark this achievement, her party has scheduled a rally for Friday evening in the southern port city of Bari, where Meloni is set to deliver a speech.
