Neurologists from Romania and international experts will analyse the latest approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases at the International Summer School of Neurology, taking place these days in Eforie Nord.

According to a release sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday, the International Summer School of Neurology, which has become a traditional scientific event for Romanian medicine, opens the doors to its 21st edition on 2 September in Eforie Nord and, until 5 September, bringing together more than 400 participants, both in person and online.

Thus, leading national and international figures in neurology, scientific researchers, university professors, senior doctors, specialists and residents will bring the latest scientific discoveries in neurology to the discussions, in a dialogue aimed at facilitating the rapid transfer of knowledge from research into medical practice.

Over the four days, the scientific programme will cover current topics in neurology, from the latest approaches to diagnosis and treatment to the prospects of personalised medicine and the impact of modern technologies on patient care. Lectures, interactive sessions and expert discussions will give participants the opportunity to analyse clinical cases, exchange experiences and identify solutions to the challenges facing contemporary neurology.

In the same period, the 14th edition of the European Teaching Course on Neurorehabilitation is also taking place, bringing together in the same setting two complementary areas: clinical neurology and neurorehabilitation, the quoted source said.

The event also provides a valuable platform for dialogue between generations and for the professional development of young doctors, who thus have direct access to the expertise of leading figures in neurology.

'We want each edition of the Summer School to be more than a succession of courses and presentations. It is a space for dialogue, questions and ideas that can make a concrete contribution to the progress of neurology and to improving patient care. The fact that, year after year, we manage to gather established specialists and young doctors demonstrates the need for such a platform and the value of exchanging experiences,' said Professor Dafin F. Muresanu, MD, PhD, the Elected President of the European Federation of NeuroRehabilitation Societies and the President of the Society for the Study of Neuroprotection and Neuroplasticity (SSNN).

This year's edition aims to strengthen the link between cutting-edge research, continuing medical education and day-to-day practice, offering participants not only up-to-date information but also new perspectives on how neurology will evolve in the years ahead.

'2026 has been and will remain an important year for Romania's neurology community, with events that contribute to strengthening the links between neurology, neurorehabilitation and international research. Following the National Neurology Forum held in Bucharest in April, which brought together specialists from Romania and abroad to discuss key issues for current neurological practice, the International Summer School of Neurology will continue this dialogue in an international setting in Eforie Nord,' Dafin F. A key moment of the International Summer School of Neurology will be the session dedicated to the Rare Neuro Alliance Romania initiative, a project launched in Bucharest this spring during the fourth edition of the National Neurology Forum.

'It is a strategic initiative aimed at improving the identification, diagnosis and management of patients with rare neurological diseases, with the goal of creating a more coherent, faster and more equitable care pathway. The project aims to develop a platform for collaboration between medical experts, clinical centres, patient organisations and relevant institutions, so that patients can benefit from efficient access to diagnosis and treatment, from the first clinical suspicions through to long-term monitoring,' the release said.

The International Summer School of Neurology is organised by the Society for the Study of Neuroprotection and Neuroplasticity, the Romanian Academy, the Romanian Academy of Medical Sciences, the 'RoNeuro' Institute in Cluj-Napoca and the Tel Aviv University, in collaboration with the European Federation of NeuroRehabilitation Societies, the World Federation of Neurorehabilitation, the Academy for Multidisciplinary Neurotraumatology and the 'Iuliu Hatieganu' University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca.
