Romania's Ambassador to Chisinau Turcanu: Republic of Moldova is not alone; Romania stands by it
The Republic of Moldova is not alone, Romania stands by it, with the same consistency, the same solidarity and the same confidence in our European future, Romanian Ambassador to Chisinau Cristian-Leon Turcanu said on Thursday.
'Today, 35 years after the proclamation of the Republic of Moldova's independence, Romania is marking, together with the people on this side of the Pruth, a fundamental moment in contemporary history and looking with confidence towards the future we are building together. On 27 August 1991, Romania was the first to recognise the independence of the Republic of Moldova. It was not merely a natural gesture at that historic moment, but the beginning of a commitment that Romania has honoured and strengthened year after year through concrete actions, solidarity and constant support,' the diplomat said, according to a release from the Embassy of Romania in the Republic of Moldova.
He mentioned that the relationship between Romania and the Republic of Moldova is built on shared history, culture and language, as well as on projects that are making a tangible difference to people's lives: energy interconnections, infrastructure, investment, education, culture, healthcare, local community development and 'unprecedented' institutional cooperation.
'Romania has been, is and will remain by the side of the Republic of Moldova, and today this commitment has a major strategic objective: the Republic of Moldova's integration into the European Union. The Republic of Moldova's place is in the great European family, and Romania will continue to firmly, actively and unequivocally support this path, in Bucharest, in Brussels and in dialogue with European partners,' the ambassador said.
The Romanian diplomat underscored that the European path means more than negotiations, chapters and institutions; it means security and prosperity, strong institutions, investment and opportunities, the freedom to choose and the guarantee that the future is built through the will of citizens.
'Romania will continue to make its experience, expertise and full capacity for support available to the Republic of Moldova so that this objective becomes a reality. At a time when we are facing unprecedented pressures and challenges, solidarity cannot remain just a word. It must be demonstrated. Romania has done so and will continue to do so,' Cristian-Leon Turcanu said, evoking the deep ties between the two countries - language, history and culture.
