20 organisations invite Nicusor Dan to urgent talks on Romania's political and economic crisis

Imagine din galeria Agerpres

Romania urgently needs political stability and a fully functioning Government capable of taking decisions, the economy needs predictability and a stable fiscal framework, while the deterioration in living standards, pressure on jobs and social vulnerabilities no longer allow concrete measures to be postponed, business representatives, Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the academic and university community, professional and consumer organisations and civil society representatives told President Nicusor Dan.

They have extended an invitation to the President of Romania for direct dialogue at the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania.

'Following the Neptun Forum, held on August 11-12, 2026, and the Neptun Declaration, signed by 20 representative organisations from the business, employers' and trade union communities, Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the academic and university community, professional and consumer organisations and civil society, we extend an invitation to you to meet with their representatives at the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania between September 1 and 4, 2026, on a mutually agreed date. The organisations that signed the Neptun Declaration represent a significant and diverse part of Romanian society: the business and entrepreneurial community, employers and employees, the network of chambers of commerce, the academic and university community, professions and professional organisations, consumers, parents and civil society. Through the structures they represent, these organisations bring together hundreds of thousands of companies and millions of employees and professionals in various fields. This is therefore not the voice of a single category, but a common voice representing important segments of Romanian society. The reality identified in Neptun is one that we can no longer afford to ignore: Romania urgently needs political stability and a fully functioning Government capable of taking decisions; the economy needs predictability and a stable fiscal framework; while the deterioration in living standards, pressure on jobs and social vulnerabilities no longer allow concrete measures to be postponed,' the invitation says.

The main topics proposed for the discussions concern the formation and full functioning of the Government, economic and fiscal stability, including predictability for companies and the protection of investment and jobs, and the protection of living standards and social cohesion, in a context in which political and economic instability is directly affecting the population through pressure on incomes, jobs and public services.

Other topics proposed for the meeting with Nicusor Dan include rethinking foreign policy in support of Romania's economic development by strengthening economic diplomacy and supporting Romanian companies in accessing and developing new markets outside the European Union, in order to increase competitiveness and diversify export opportunities, as well as developing a coherent institutional approach to the Romanian state's relationship with Romanians living abroad, so that state institutions can establish effective mechanisms for dialogue, support and representation for Romanian citizens permanently or temporarily residing abroad.

'Mr President, the signatory organisations are not asking you for a ceremonial meeting. They are asking you for direct dialogue with the society they represent. We believe that, at such a time, the voice of the economic community, employees, entrepreneurs, universities, professionals and civil society cannot be ignored. Romania needs its institutions to listen to society and act. And we believe that the first step should be direct dialogue, without intermediaries and filters, between the President of Romania and the organisations that signed the Neptun Declaration. We, the organisations participating in the Neptun Forum, invite you to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania between September 1 and 4, 2026, for direct dialogue with the organisations that signed the Neptun Declaration, which we attach hereto. It is up to you to set the date and time of the meeting, depending on the presidential agenda, as we are convinced that this dialogue is necessary and that the current situation no longer allows delays,' the invitation says.

The signatory organisations are: the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR), the Employers' Federation of Building Companies (FPSC), the National Federation of Producers in Agriculture, Food Industry and Related Services in Romania (PRO AGRO), the National Union of Agricultural Cooperatives from the Vegetal Sector (UNCSV), the Romanian Employers' Association of Military Equipment Manufacturers (PATROMIL), the Romanian Water Association (ARA), the COGEN Romania Professional Association, the Romanian Association of Foresters (ASFOR), the Farmers' Strength Association (AFF), the League of Romanian Agricultural Producers Associations (LAPAR), the Romanian Furniture Manufacturers' Association (APMR), the National Trade Union Confederation 'Cartel Alfa', the Democratic Trade Union Confederation of Romania (CSDR), the National Trade Union Bloc (BNS), the National Trade Union Confederation Meridian (CSN Meridian), the Romanian Academy, the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences 'Gheorghe Ionescu-Sisesti' (ASAS), the InfoCons Consumer Protection Association, the National Federation of Parents - EDUPART, the 'Nicolae Voiculet' Cultural Association and the 'Niste Tarani' National Foundation for Rural Civilisation.
