Code Red heat warning in 7 counties; Code Orange in three quarters of country until Friday morning
The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) updated on Wednesday the Code Red and Code Orange warnings for extreme heat, which will be valid across most of the country until Friday morning.
According to the specialised forecast, between 5 August, 10:00 and 7 August, 10:00, there will be a Code Red warning for persistent and intense heat in the counties of Maramures, Satu Mare, Salaj, Bihor, Arad, Timis and Caras-Severin. In these areas, extreme temperatures will be recorded, comparable to the absolute records for the month of August.
Thus, maximum temperatures will reach 37-39 degrees in the counties of Maramures, Satu Mare and Salaj, and 39-41 degrees in the counties of Bihor, Arad, Timis and Caras-Severin.
Moreover, thermal discomfort will be particularly severe, and the temperature-humidity index (THI) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. The nights will be tropical, with minimum temperatures of up to 25-26 degrees, with the highest values recorded in the Western Hills.
During the same analysed period, a Code Orange warning for heatwave conditions, severe thermal discomfort and tropical nights will be in force in areas of Moldavia, Oltenia, most of Transylvania, south-western and central Muntenia, where maximum temperatures will range between 35 and 38 degrees.
In addition, thermal discomfort will be high, the THI will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units, and tropical nights will occur locally, with minimum temperatures of 20-24 degrees, with the highest values expected to be recorded in the Moldavian Hills.
