Romania wins coxed eight gold medals at 2026 European Rowing Championships
Romania claimed gold medals in the men's and women's coxed eight events on Sunday at the 2026 European Rowing Championships in Varese, Italy.
In the men's 8+ final, Romania (Claudiu Neamtu, Mateus-Simion Cozminciuc, Mugurel Vasile Semciuc, Andrei Mandrila, Constantin Adam, Sergiu Vasile Bejan, Florin Arteni, Fabrizio-Alexandru Scripcariu, Rucsandra-Ioana Bucsa) won in 5 min 25.95 sec, ahead of Germany (5:28.85) and Italy (5:31.74).
In the women's 8+ final, Romania (Cristina Druga, Geanina Dumitrita Juncanariu, Ancuta Bodnar, Maria Lehaci, Maria Magdalena Rusu, Amalia Chelaru, Adriana Adam, Simona Radis, Victoria Stefania Petreanu) won in 5 min 56.14 sec, followed by Great Britain (6:01.57) and Italy (6:03.65).
Romania, who won another four medals on Saturday, now have a tally of four gold, one silver and one bronze medal.
Bianca Ifteni finished second in the women's single sculls Final B in 8 min 13.79 sec, behind Denmark's Frida Sanggaard Nielsen (8:07.64).
