President Nicusor Dan to receive Indian President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday
President Nicusor Dan will receive Indian President Droupadi Murmu at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace on Thursday, as she begins a state visit to Romania lasting until Saturday at the invitation of the Romanian side.
Official talks between the two heads of state will focus on strengthening the Extended Partnership between Romania and India ahead of the 80th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations in 2028, the Presidential Administration said.
The discussions will seek to enhance people-to-people ties by expanding cultural, academic and sporting exchanges, as well as cooperation in research and innovation, alongside deepening bilateral economic cooperation. In this respect, the Presidential Administration highlighted the growing momentum in bilateral relations, particularly following the adoption in 2024 of the Joint Declaration marking ten years of the Extended Partnership and against the backdrop of the unprecedented strengthening of the European Union-India Strategic Partnership.
As part of the visit, a Romania-India Business Forum will be held on Friday, jointly inaugurated by the two heads of state. The event will bring together representatives of the Romanian and Indian business communities, as well as Romanian public authorities.
The Presidential Administration described the Indian president's state visit as a landmark in bilateral relations, marking the resumption of political dialogue at the highest level after a gap of two decades. The most recent visit by a Romanian head of state to India took place in 2006, while the last visit to Romania by an Indian president was in 1994.
