Number of people who prefer holidays in floating hotels in the Danube Delta is increasing
The number of people choosing holidays on a floating hotel in the Danube Delta is increasing this year compared with last year, despite the war triggered by Russia in Ukraine, according to some tourism operators.
The owner of one of the companies that has been offering stays in the reserve on floating hotels for several years, Daniel Petrescu, told AGERPRES that the demand received from clients this year is up to 15% higher than last year.
'Our guests want to see the Delta, less to fish. They want birds, fauna, flora and we have routes that also include the Caraorman Forest or the Letea Forest. We increased prices this year by 10% due to rising costs, but not enough in the context of the VAT increase. Even so, the number of requests is up by 10-15%,' Daniel Petrescu mentioned.
Moreover, amateur fishermen who want to spend their holidays in the Delta also have access to floating hotels from whose rooms they can cast their fishing lines.
'The occupancy rate has reached around 75% this year based on the reservations we have for this year, compared with last year when we had an occupancy rate of 35%. Tourists have decreased in frequency [because of the war in Ukraine], but anglers have not. They come to fish and nothing stops them. I know this because I am also an angler and I started the floating hotel business at the insistence of other anglers who also wanted to fish from bed, as I used to do,' according to Constantin Radeanu, the owner of some floating hotels located on the Cernovca Channel near the Chilia branch of the Danube.
He brought to mind that he was fishing when, at the start of the war in the neighbouring country, the Russians attacked Snake Island.
'I was at Obrizu, fishing, when the Russians attacked Snake Island. The blast from the explosion moved our boat two, four metres. I said I would never go there again and I went home the next second,' said Constantin Radeanu, who is from Iasi.
