ANM issues Code Orange for torrential rain and squalls in 17 counties until Friday morning
The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued a Code Orange warning for torrential rainfall and significant precipitation amounts, valid from 12:00 on Thursday in 17 counties.
According to meteorologists, until 10:00 on Friday, periods of severe atmospheric instability are expected in Cluj, Alba, Hunedoara, Valcea, Arges, Dambovita, Prahova, Buzau, Vrancea, Bacau, Neamt and Suceava counties, as well as in the mountainous areas of Harghita, Covasna, Brasov, Sibiu and Gorj counties. Conditions will include torrential downpours, significant rainfall accumulations, strengthening winds and squalls with gusts of 70-90 km/h, as well as isolated medium-sized hail.
Over short periods of time (1-3 hours) or through accumulation, rainfall amounts will generally reach 40-60 litres per square metre, with isolated areas receiving more than 70 litres per square metre.
A Code Yellow warning for atmospheric instability has also been issued for the period from 10:00 on 11 June to 10:00 on 12 June, covering counties in Transylvania, Moldavia, Oltenia, southern Banat, most of Muntenia and Maramures, as well as mountain areas.
In these regions, torrential downpours, thunderstorms, strengthening winds and squalls with speeds of 50-70 km/h, as well as small-sized hail, are expected. Over short periods (1-3 hours) or through accumulation, rainfall amounts will reach 20-30 litres per square metre, with isolated areas receiving more than 40-50 litres per square metre.
