Bucharest General Mayor Ciucu to participate in the World Cities Summit in Singapore
The General Mayor of the Capital City, Ciprian Ciucu, announced on Wednesday that he will attend the 10th edition of the World Cities Summit, held in Singapore from June 14 to 16.
According to the mayor, the forum is one of the most important events dedicated to mayors worldwide, and the invitation was extended by the Government of Singapore, representing 'an honour for Bucharest'.
'The invitation comes with bilateral meetings at the level of ministries and government agencies, offering unique opportunities to build contacts within the Singaporean state, as well as with other mayors from major cities around the world. This event can easily be placed in the top three events dedicated to the mayors of the world's most important cities. The fact that I have also been invited to speak on one of the event's panels honours me and will give visibility to Bucharest at this highly important event,' Ciprian Ciucu wrote on Facebook.
He added that he chooses his foreign trips 'very carefully', attending only those from which he expects to 'bring something back' or 'learn something', noting that the Singapore Government's invitation also includes coverage of costs by the organisers.
'I will not be travelling with a delegation from the City Hall; I will be accompanied by Teodor Frolu, who is also invited as an expert and will cover his own expenses,' Ciucu said.
The mayor also stated that the summit's themes-people-centred cities, mobility, climate resilience, smart cities, urban financing and the future of cities - directly align with Bucharest's agenda.
'Bucharest needs collaborations with cities, institutions, companies and financiers that can accelerate concrete projects: mobility, infrastructure, digitalisation, urban regeneration, energy efficiency, green spaces. Some will say that Singapore is ‘too far away' and cannot be a model for us. But we are not only talking about Singapore; we are talking about a context, an entire professional and decision-making ecosystem from around the world, with major cities at its core,' Ciprian Ciucu added.
