Fritz: USR remains consistent, will not be part of another PSD-led government

Imagine din galeria Agerpres

The leader of the Save Romania Union (USR), Dominic Fritz, denied reports that the party is negotiating a government coalition with the Social Democratic Party (PSD), stressing that the formation remains consistent with the position it expressed both before and after the PSD-AUR motion.

'Several television stations, including some that claim to be serious, are pushing so-called 'stories from sources' alleging that USR is negotiating a government with PSD. Others are writing in a sort of pre-emptive outrage about a supposed change of direction by USR (...). All these moves have one purpose only: to sow distrust and break the alignment between the two major centre-right parties, USR and PNL,' Fritz wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.

He stressed that there are 'no underground negotiations whatsoever' regarding USR joining a government alongside the Social Democrats.

'We rule out this scenario not out of pride or stubbornness, but because we are convinced that protecting Romania's pro-European and reformist path can only be achieved through responsibility and moral clarity. USR will never serve as decoration in a government masking collaboration between PSD and AUR. We will not sacrifice Romanians' hopes for a clean and efficient state for the sake of supposed stability. We do not provide stability for the corrupt. Please, do not allow yourselves to be divided by the viruses of disinformation. Watch what USR ministers do, do not believe 'sources' and do not lose faith in Romania,' Dominic Fritz also wrote.
