President Dan further rules out early elections: A majority will be formed on a solution

Imagine din galeria Agerpres

President Nicusor Dan further rules out the possibility of early elections, expressing his belief that a majority will emerge 'on a solution' for the formation of the new Government.

'It is a negotiation, meaning a negotiation in which each party has certain conditions - some of these conditions are negotiable, others are non-negotiable. What I can say in general terms is that we will not experiment, meaning we will carry out these negotiations as long as necessary in order to ensure that the designated prime minister will have the vote in Parliament,' the head of state said on Tuesday.

In his view, this situation will not last long and the timeframe for appointing a prime minister is 'reasonable.'

'Reasonable, I don't want to make promises so as not to put even more pressure on these negotiations,' the President added.

He said there are 'some' chances of nominating a prime minister next week: 'I don't want to estimate, in my mind there are many options, but I don't want to put additional pressure on the negotiations.'

'I further rule out (the scenario of early elections),' the President mentioned.

'For Romania, it is better that this crisis ends as soon as possible, and in that sense I will act. (...) A majority will be formed on a solution. Of course, both the parties and society, each of us, have expectations and it will not be a solution that fully satisfies all these expectations, but that is politics and that is the purpose of consultation, but there will be a majority,' Nicusor Dan conveyed.

Asked whether he could have done more to maintain the governing coalition, he replied: 'Tensions within the coalition intensified. A lot has happened. In December, at the European Council, while speaking with someone there, I said I was afraid things had entered a personal sphere and it would be difficult. We all left together, we all promised together that we would work. Everyone is to blame. (...) I have done more, there have been several moments of mediation. Looking back, you can reproach yourself for things, moments, actions, but we are here, and we must look to the future.' AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Alina Novaceanu; EN - writing by: Rodica State)
