UTCN launches RON 76 mln Ro-Green Sustainable Electric Mobility Solutions project
The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (UTCN) launched on Wednesday the Ro-Green Sustainable Electric Mobility Solutions project (SMIS 336225), a major research and development initiative in sustainable mobility worth 76 million RON, financed through the 2021 - 2027 Smart Growth, Digitalization and Financial Instruments Program.
'The major objective of Ro-Green is to develop advanced sustainable mobility solutions by integrating modern technologies in electric, land and air mobility, with the ambition of reaching a high level of technological maturity by the end of the project. Ro-Green is not just a project about vehicles, it is a project about technological capacity - about building, around a university and its partners, an expertise platform capable of generating concrete results: prototypes, validated systems, patents, publications and technology transfer,' said project director Vlad Nicolae Burnete at the launch.
The project will run for 36 months and aims to develop advanced electric and hydrogen-powered transport solutions, both terrestrial and aerial, targeting high technological readiness levels.
Ro-Green is built around two main technological pillars. The first focuses on land mobility, through the development of an autonomous hybrid hydrogen-battery vehicle integrating fuel cells, intelligent control systems and autonomous driving technologies. The second, described as one of the most ambitious components, targets urban air mobility and includes advanced drones, urban air transport systems and electrified AirTaxi concepts.
