USR's Fritz: We'll not allow PSD, AUR take Romania back into the past
Save Romania Union (USR) ministers will continue their activity until the day a new government is appointed, Save Romania Union leader Dominic Fritz announced on Tuesday.
In a post on Facebook, he said that the motion of censure passed, but that USR will not allow 'PSD [Social Democratic Party] and AUR [Alliance for the Union of Romanians] to take Romania back into the past.'
'We all know that the two parties wanted the same thing: to stop the reforms before the reforms emptied their shoeboxes and freed us from patronage, connections and cronyism. Their greed costs, and it will cost Romanians dearly. They have already paid for 36 years. Many of us are disgusted and angry. But we must not be indecisive,' Dominic Fritz said.
The USR leader reiterated that the party will not negotiate the formation of a new government with PSD and announced that he will hold discussions during the day with colleagues from the party leadership.
'We will stand alongside all Romanians who want to build something in this country. With responsibility and courage. In good times and bad, regardless of how many obstacles are placed in our way. USR ministers will continue their work until the day a new government is appointed. As we decided and announced beforehand, we will not negotiate a new government with PSD. You cannot govern with a partner that blocks reforms while keeping a reserve majority with AUR in its pocket. Today I will have several meetings with colleagues from the USR leadership to decide how we best defend Romania and our values in the coming period,' the USR leader added.
The motion of censure initiated by MPs from the Social Democratic Party, the Alliance for the Union of Romanians and PACE - Intai Romania (PEACE - Romania First) against the government led by Liberal Ilie Bolojan was adopted by Parliament on Tuesday.
A total of 281 votes were cast in favour, four votes against, while three votes were invalid. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Irinela Visan; EN - writing by: Adina Panaitescu)
