National Financial Education Program for Romania concludes strategic partnership with John F. Walsh
The National Financial Education Program for Romania (PNEFR) has concluded a strategic partnership with John F. Walsh, an executive director in international financial services, with over 40 years of experience in global banking, trading, financial technology and risk management.
Through this partnership, PNEFR aims to strengthen the risk prevention dimension and risk literacy within financial education. The program aims to complement traditional financial education with a practical understanding of the mechanisms through which financial systems can generate vulnerabilities, including through the analysis of compliance structures, complex financial flows, institutional exposures and operational risks.
'Effective financial education goes beyond explaining financial products. It must also include the ability to understand the risk environment in which these products operate,' said Bogdan Petre, executive director of PNEFR, quoted in a press release from the Association for Economic Studies and Forecasts (ASPES).
For his part, John Walsh emphasized that financial education, supporting young people in achieving financial independence, strengthening public-private partnerships and promoting real economic democracy are essential directions that this program integrates into a coherent and applied framework.
'I am particularly pleased to be involved in a partnership with an organization of such caliber, the National Financial Education Program for Romania (PNEFR), coordinated by Executive Director Bogdan Petre. The clear mission of this program, to support young people in Romania, is deeply aligned with the values I believe in. Financial education, supporting young people in achieving financial independence, strengthening public-private partnerships and promoting a real economic democracy represent essential directions that this program integrates into a coherent and applied framework. Through the collaboration between university professors, financial specialists and business leaders, who will hold interactive sessions dedicated to students, the program emphasizes understanding fundamental economic mechanisms and developing a solid financial culture. Within the program, we have the real opportunity to contribute to the formation of a new generation of prepared, responsible and financially independent young people - an approach that, over time, will generate impact on 'This partnership marks an important step in the evolution of PNEFR, representing the transition from a general financial information initiative to a platform focused on understanding, managing and anticipating systemic risks. In an increasingly complex and globally interconnected financial environment, risk literacy is becoming an essential component of any financial education initiative that aims to be practical, relevant and future-oriented,' the release said.
Throughout his career, John Walsh has founded and developed multiple trading and brokerage firms operating in international markets and led major technology and risk management divisions on Wall Street. He specializes in anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorism financing (CTF), financial crime prevention, and institutional risk management, helping to develop and implement compliance and financial security frameworks at major financial institutions, including Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and Merrill Lynch. John Walsh currently serves as Chief Strategy Officer for TransPecos Banks, where his work focuses on strategic growth, financial technology, risk infrastructure, and regulatory strategy. In addition to his executive roles, he is an advisor to several global venture capital firms, advises governments on security and financial crime issues, and supports boards of directors in areas such as risk, compliance, technology, and governance.
In 2007, John Walsh founded SightSpan Inc., a risk management and security consulting firm that has supported hundreds of fintech companies, banks, payment service providers and government institutions over the past two decades. He currently remains involved with SightSpan as an executive advisor, providing strategic guidance on risk management, compliance and security initiatives for the financial system.
