President Nicusor Dan's partner Mirabela Gradinaru said on Tuesday that she is looking forward to collaborating with U.S. First Lady Melania Trump on digital education and media literacy for children around the world.

Mirabela Gradinaru is heading Romania's official delegation participating on Tuesday and Wednesday in Washington, D.C., in the inaugural summit of a global coalition dedicated to children's digital education, organized at the initiative of First Lady Melania Trump.

'I believe this initiative is a very valuable one, generating momentum, visibility and much-needed dynamism in this field. At the same time, it is crucial that we have an integrated approach that better links education, innovation and technology. I look forward to start working closely with First Lady Melania Trump and everybody around this table, within the framework of this project, for developing concrete initiatives and achieving a tangible impact in advancing digital education, safe online practices and media literacy for children worldwide,' Mirabela Gradinaru said in her intervention at the inaugural session of the summit.

She also introduced the experts accompanying her to Washington - specifically Andrada Morar from Ui Path, and Robert Berza from Edge Institute Romania.

The Romanian delegation additionally includes Vlad Ionescu, State Counselor for Foreign Policy, and Diana Punga, State Counselor for Civil Society Liaison.

The summit promotes international cooperation to improve children's well-being through education, innovation and technology. According to the Presidential Administration, the initiative aims to provide access to modern tools, including AI-based solutions, to support students, teachers and parents, while strengthening online safety.

The agenda features a working session at the U.S. State Department on Tuesday and a high-level meeting at the White House on Wednesday, attended by first ladies and representatives of participating states, focusing on digital education, technology use and child protection online.

'Romania's participation in this summit reflects the commitment of the Presidential Administration to supporting digital education and the development of public policies adapted to the challenges of the online environment,' the Presidency noted.

On the sidelines of the visit, the Romanian delegation will meet with Lisa Choate, President and CEO of the American Councils for International Education, which runs the FLEX and FLEX Abroad exchange programs in relation to Romania, as well as professional development initiatives for the public and private sectors.

The delegation will also take part in a roundtable with Romanian physicians in the United States specialising in addiction and related fields, active in leading medical and research centres.

The agenda further includes a visit to the Thrive Center for Children, Families and Communities at Georgetown University, where the delegation will meet with Director Matthew Biel and his team. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Oana Ghita; EN - writing by: Simona Klodnischi)
