An official delegation of Romania will attend the inaugural summit of a global coalition ('Fostering the Future Together') dedicated to children's digital education in Washington D.C., organised at the initiative of the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, who extended an invitation to Mirabela Gradinaru, life partner of President Nicusor Dan.

'The Presidential Administration announces the participation of an official delegation in Washington D.C. from 24 to 25 March 2026 at the inaugural summit of a global coalition dedicated to children's digital education, organised at the initiative of the First Lady of the United States. The Romanian delegation's participation takes place following an invitation from First Lady of the US Melania Trump to Ms Mirabela Gradinaru, as part of an international initiative to which other First Ladies from several countries were also invited,' according to a press release of the Presidential Administration issued on Sunday.

According to the quoted source, Romania's delegation is made up of Vlad Ionescu, State Adviser for Foreign Policy, Diana Punga, State Advisor for Administration, Public Policies and Civil Society, and Mirabela Gradinaru.

The summit promotes international cooperation to foster children's wellbeing through education, innovation and technology.

'The initiative aims to expand access to modern tools, including solutions based on artificial intelligence, to support students, teachers and parents, as well as to strengthen online safety,' the Presidential Administration said.

The agenda includes a working session at the US Department of State on 24 March and a high-level meeting at the White House on 25 March, with the participation of First Ladies and representatives of the involved countries, focusing on digital education, the use of technology and the protection of children online.

'Romania's participation in this summit reflects the Presidential Administration's commitment to supporting digital education and developing public policies adapted to the challenges of the online environment. On the sidelines of the visit, the delegation will meet Lisa Choate, President of the American Councils for International Education, an organisation that runs educational exchange programmes with Romania, namely FLEX and FLEX Abroad, as well as professional development initiatives for the public and private sectors,' the press release mentioned.

According to the quoted source, the delegation members will also attend a roundtable with Romanian doctors in the US specialising in addiction and related areas, involved in the work of leading medical and research centres.
