'Atlas of the Universe' wins best teen film award at Sofia International Film Festival 2026

The feature film 'Atlas of the Universe', directed by Romania's Paul Negoescu, was awarded the best teen film award at the 30th edition of the Sofia International Film Festival.

The award ceremony took place on Sunday evening.

'Atlas of the Universe' was the first and only Romanian film selected in the competition of teen films.



The selection of the Sofia festival also included the Romanian feature films 'A Safe Place' (directed by Cecilia Stefanescu, in the international competition), '3 Days in September' (directed by Tudor Giurgiu, in the Balkan competition) and 'Milk Teeth' (directed by Mihai Mincan, in the Balkan competition).

Written by Paul Negoescu and Mihai Mincan, the film 'Atlas of the Universe' is presented as a warm and humorous story about childhood, courage and the power of imagination. The synopsis of the film describes the adventure of a ten-year-old boy who, after accidentally buying two shoes for his right foot, sets out on a journey to find his left foot.

The main role is played by Matei Donciu, an 11-year-old child selected in an extensive casting coordinated by casting director Florentina Bratfanof.



The cast includes Marin Grigore, Andreea Gramosteanu, Costi Antone, Zisu Stanciu, Sofia Marinescu, Cristi Martin, Silvana Negrutiu, Andrei Mateiu, Andreea Mateiu, Kim Ciobanu, Puiu Liscus, Calin Petru, Johanna Mild - Kereszturi, Carol Alupoaei, Norbert Boda, Eliza Bercu, Nicolae Dragulin, Nelu Serghei, Dani Ionita and Ion Rusu.
