Romania showcases Via Transilvanica and Banat gastronomy at ITB Berlin

Romania is being promoted between March 3 - 5 at the world's largest tourism trade fair - Internationale Tourismus-Börse (ITB) Berlin, with this year's participation aimed at strengthening Romania's presence on the German market, the Ministry of Economy, Digital Transformation, Entrepreneurship and Tourism announced.

Romania's stand, organized by the Ministry, brings together 30 co-exhibitors - travel agencies, hoteliers, professional associations, destination-management organizations and local authorities.

For the first time, the hiking trail Via Transilvanica - 'The Road that Unites' - is featured as part of Romania's touristic offer, as an example of active and sustainable tourism, highlighting our country's potential for hiking, cycling and nature-based experiences - segments for which the German market shows constant interest.

Throughout the fair, the stand runs video spots produced by British journalist Charlie Ottley, showcasing Romania's cultural and natural heritage. Visitors have access to brochures and tourist maps in both physical and digital formats, in both English and German, including materials developed through the 'Attractive Romania' project financed via the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The Romanian delegation is led by Secretary of State Laurentiu Viorel Gidei, coordinator of the tourism sector. The official agenda includes meetings with Shaikha Al Nowais, Secretary-General of UN Tourism, as well as with the organizers of the International Danube Navigation and Tourism Conference.

To extend the promotional effort beyond the exhibition space, on March 4 an event dedicated to Romanian destinations will take place at the Embassy of Romania in the Federal Republic of Germany, with presentations by the co-exhibitors from the national stand. The event provides an additional platform for dialogue with journalists, partners and representatives of the Romanian diaspora. It will be opened by Romania's ambassador to Germany, Adriana-Loreta Stanescu, and Secretary of State Laurentiu Viorel Gidei.

On March 5, Romania will also take part in the 11th edition of Donausalon - the Danube Salon - organized by the Baden-Württemberg representation in Berlin, in cooperation with the Embassy of Bulgaria - the country holding the 2026 presidency of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR). Participation includes promoting Romania's tourism offer and networking activities.

According to the Ministry, the gastronomic component - an integral part of the tourism offer - complements Romania's presence at ITB Berlin and at the two related events. On the second day of the fair, guests will enjoy a culinary experience dedicated to the Banat region. Under the concept 'Goodies from the Banat Pantry', Visit Timis and Horetim, together with partners from the 'Banat - European Gastronomic Region 2028' project, will offer a buffet with regional products. Participants include: Ursus Breweries (Timisoreana brand), Recas Wineries, Aramic Winery, Petrovaselo Winery, Casa del Sole Restaurant, Nora Carmangerie, Moara Maria Bakery and Tolea Farm.

The tasting program will be complemented by wines offered by Vinarte, the Catleya and Vinju Mare Estates, as well as traditional products provided by Avi-Gis, Vatra Inn and Raureni.

'Germany remains a priority market for Romanian tourism. German visitors are particularly interested in cultural tourism, hiking, city breaks, the seaside, rural tourism and ecotourism, including the Danube Delta - segments in which Romania's offer is competitive and diverse. Air connectivity supports this dynamic through direct flights, facilitating quick and frequent travel,' the statement reads.
