Mayor of Brasov estimates that organizing EYOF will cost about 20 million euros

Image

The mayor of Brasov, George Scripcaru, announced on Thursday, in a press conference, that he estimates that approximately 20 million euros would be needed to organize the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in 2027, and one of the investments that the Brasov municipality should make this year would be the construction of a second reservoir at Poiana Brasov for the production of artificial snow.

This amount also includes the creation of the visual identity of the international competition, with the three mascots - Brasi the bear, Vivi the squirrel and the hockey player deer - being presented on Thursday, as well as the EYOF 2027 logo.

'There are indoor sports, where you have the technology to help you, but there are also those outdoor competitions for which you depend on weather conditions, temperatures and, if you don't have the resources, things get complicated. That's why, in addition to the necessary facilities, equipment (...), we studied and accessed specialized consultancy that released the documentation for the ski area in Poiana Brasov (the expansion - ed.) and we identified a place for a second lake on the mountain, (...) even outside of this competition it will be very useful. We are now pumping (into the existing lake - ed.) drinking water from the city and you realize that there are very substantial expenses, it is not simply water, it is processed water, because snow cannons cannot function with water with impurities. After an analysis, we identified a location with a water source from springs and it is an option that we must take into account, an investment that we should make this year,' declared Mayor George Scripcaru.

He mentioned that the amount of 20 million also includes the amounts requested by the professional federations, which are responsible for the training of athletes, as well as co-financing from the administrative-territorial units where the competitions within EYOF 2027 will be held.

'We also took into account the necessary funds that were delivered to us by the federations - we worked in the organizing committee and estimated that the amount of about 20 million euros would be necessary. (...) We asked the Government to provide in the budget lines, as a state budget, to provide this amount because we have an infrastructure that we support, we maintain at the moment. There are also certain programs that we discussed with the AFM, where it is intended to access some programs, within the 20 million euros, with a 20% co-financing share from the administrative-territorial units (within the radius of which the competitions within the EYOF will take place - ed.),' highlighted George Scripcaru.

At the same time, the Brasov mayor stated that, to date, 48 countries have confirmed their participation in EYOF 2027 and that there will be a total of seven locations. According to him, the six locations announced so far - Brasov, Poiana Brasov, Cheile Gradistei, Rasnov, Predeal and Sfantu Gheorghe - have recently been added to the Szekler Fair.

Deputy Mayor Dan Ghita specified, in turn, that the main Olympic village will be in Brasov, and a secondary one will be at Cheile Grădistei.AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Diana Dumitru, editing by: Marius Fratila;EN - writing by: Catalin Cristian Trandafir)
