Serge Ioan Celebidachi's 'The Yellow Tie' film to premiere in U.S. on Friday

Image

'The Yellow Tie' feature film, directed by Serge Ioan Celebidachi, will have its United States premiere on Friday at the Riviera Theatre, as part of the 41st edition of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF).

According to a press release sent to AGERPRES, additional screenings of the film are scheduled for 7 and 9 February at Film Center 2.

'It is a great honour to bring ‘The Yellow Tie' to SBIFF on the occasion of its United States premiere. There is no more fitting place than Santa Barbara for what we hope will be the beginning of a beautiful and lasting dialogue with the American audience,' director Serge Ioan Celebidachi is quoted in the press release as saying.

Inspired by the destiny of the legendary conductor Sergiu Celibidache, the film 'The Yellow Tie' presents the extraordinary story of a child with a dream who conquered the world. It is the journey of a man who refused any compromise, from a childhood spent under an authoritarian father in interwar Romania to the years of famine and the struggle for survival in war-ravaged Germany. A film about the courage to believe in what seems impossible and about the price paid for remaining steadfast in a world of compromises. About love, truth, integrity and sacrifice. About success that means nothing without the acceptance and recognition of loved ones. And about the longing for home, which accompanied him always, wherever he might have been, according to the film's synopsis.

The cast brings together major names of international cinema, including John Malkovich and Miranda Richardson, both two-time Oscar nominees, Ben Schnetzer and Kate Phillips. Sean Bean, winner of two BAFTA awards, Anton Lesser and Charlie Rowe (Rocketman) complete the cast.

The film is directed by Serge Ioan Celebidachi, the conductor's son, who also co-wrote the screenplay with James Olivier. The creative team includes prominent names from the international film industry: director of photography Peter Menzies, Jr. ACS, costume designer Alessandro Lai, make-up, hair and prosthetics designer Lynda Armstrong and set designer Vlad Vieru. The original music is composed by Kathryn Kluge and Kim Allen Kluge.

Recognised as a major landmark in the international film industry calendar, the Santa Barbara Festival is regarded as an important barometer of the Oscar races. It is known for its Celebrity Tributes events and for the constant presence of major figures from world cinema.

Over time, the Santa Barbara International Film Festival has hosted some of the most important names in world cinema. Actors and filmmakers honoured within the famous Celebrity Tributes programme include Bradley Cooper, Denzel Washington, Brad Pitt, Nicole Kidman, Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese, Cate Blanchett and Angelina Jolie.

Since its cinema release, 'The Yellow Tie' has been seen by over 470,000 spectators, becoming the most-watched Romanian film of 2025. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Petronius Craiu; EN - writing by: Adina Panaitescu)
