Toxicology tests reveal driver of crashed Greek minibus had cannabis, cocaine, alcohol in his system
Toxicological tests performed by forensic specialists revealed that the Greek driver of the minibus involved in Tuesday's accident on National Road DN 6 in Timis County had consumed cannabis, cocaine and alcohol, prosecutor Bertha Constantinescu, spokesperson for the Lugoj District Court Prosecutor's Office, told AGERPRES on Thursday.
'A toxicology report issued by the Timisoara Institute of Forensic Medicine confirmed the presence of two psychoactive substances - cannabis and cocaine - in the driver's blood. Alcohol was also detected. In addition, two sachets containing what appear to be psychoactive substances were found in the vehicle, though laboratory confirmation is still pending. The case is being investigated by the criminal investigation unit of the Lugoj Municipal Police, Traffic Bureau, under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Lugoj Court. In rem investigations are underway for negligent bodily harm and involuntary manslaughter,' the spokesperson said.
Besides the driver, nine other Greek nationals - supporters of the PAOK Thessaloniki football club - were traveling in the 8+1-seat minibus. The driver and six passengers died, while three others were injured and transported to Timisoara County Hospital for medical care.
Traffic police determined that the 29-year-old driver, traveling from Caransebes toward Lugoj, entered the oncoming lane while overtaking and collided head-on with a long-haul truck.
Two of the injured Greek citizens were discharged and flown to Greece on Thursday morning, representatives of the Timis Prefecture said. The bodies of the seven deceased Greek nationals will be repatriated on Thursday afternoon by a military aircraft.
Judicial sources familiar with the investigation told AGERPRES on Wednesday that 'two sachets - one containing a vegetal substance and one containing a white substance - were found inside the vehicle'. AGEPRRES (RO - writing by: Otilia Halunga; EN - writing by: Simona Klodnischi)
