European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner visiting Romania on Monday
The European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner will come on Monday on an official visit to Bucharest, where he will meet with Romanian President Nicusor Dan, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs Catalin Predoiu, and representatives of the European Affairs and Defence Committees of the Parliament's Chamber of Deputies and Senate.
The visit takes place as the Commission steps up its support through the European Internal Security Strategy, ProtectEU, for combating human trafficking, organised crime, the protection of critical infrastructure and the online dimension of crime, the European Commission's Representation to Romania announced in a release.
Commissioner Brunner intends to engage directly with the security challenges facing Romania, which is a key pillar of the European security architecture.
We have much to learn from Romania, which successfully protects its external borders and counters hybrid threats from Russia, including disinformation campaigns and drone incursions. In response, the Commission will launch the European Democracy Shield this year, and the European Drone Defence Initiative next year. The Commission is making an additional EUR 250 million available for civil drones and counter-drone capabilities, the release informs.
