Senate President Abrudean says Romania could have a development center for UAS
Senate President Mircea Abrudean highlighted on Tuesday, after a meeting dedicated to cooperation in the defence industry area, the opportunity for Romania to become a regional hub in a strategic area by opening a development center of the unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) sector.
'Today, I participated, at the invitation of the head of the Senate Committee for Defence, Public Order and National Security, Nicoleta Pauliuc, in an important meeting dedicated to cooperation in the defence industry area and the development of the UAS sector. Alongside representatives of the business and research area, dedicated to the defence industry, as well as the development of Romania's aerospace, also present were representatives of the Arizona Commerce Authority, the US. I have always supported Romania's potential in the area of technology and intelligent systems development thanks to the exceptional human resource in research that our country has at its disposal. Today, it was discussed the opportunity to become a regional hub in a strategic area by opening a UAS development center, which will support both the startups and the established companies in testing and certifying their solutions,' Abrudean wrote on his Facebook page.
According to Abrudean, 'we have the opportunity to expand the collaboration between Romania and the US through investments in UAS production facilities both in Romania and in Arizona, which would strengthen the economic relation between our countries and would open access to EU markets for the US and, at the same time, to the US for Romania.'
'Such a partnership means not only innovation and technology, but also well-paid jobs, enhanced security and sustainable development for our societies. We are aware that the development of the UAS sector entails numerous structural changes, including a clear and favorable legislation and we are fully committed to achieving this thing. Moreover, establishing some scientific exchange programmes between Romanian universities and those in Arizona, in the UAS area, could represent an important opportunity.
