Cuban ambassador unveils symbolic distance indicator in Sighisoara's Clock Tower
A distance indicator between the city of Sighisoara and the capital of Cuba, Havana, with 9,395 kilometers written on it, was unveiled in the Clock Tower of the Sighisoara medieval citadel by Cuba's ambassador to Romania, Déborah Leticia Ojeda Valedón, and Sighisoara mayor Ioan Iulian Sirbu, the municipality announced on Wednesday in a release.
The indicator was installed a day ago, after the 'Havana' photo exhibition opened at the Sighisoara City Hall in the presence of the Cuban diplomat.
'If we didn't manage to get to Cuba this year, Cuba is coming to us! And it does so in a special way: through art, through its authentic culture and through the energy radiated by this exhibition. Courtesy to the support of the Cuban Embassy in Romania, Sighisoara is hosting an exhibition that is open to everyone. I thank Her Excellency for choosing our city as the place to share a part of the culture of a country with a rich history and a warm spirit. We also share a common bond - both Sighisoara and Havana are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. (...) Thanks to the excellent cooperation between the Cuban Embassy in Romania and the Sighisoara City Hall, also yesterday, a bronze plaque was installed in the Clock Tower, indicating the exact distance between Sighisoara and Havana: 9,395 km,' Ioan Iulian Sirbu said.

At the opening of the exhibition, ambassador Déborah Leticia Ojeda Valedón said that the photographs on display form a bridge between this municipality and Havana.
'And these photographs allow us to weave a bridge between two places dense with memory: Sighisoara, with its medieval heritage and European spirit, and Havana - with its Caribbean soul and vibrant history. With this event, which will also include a journey through the various facets of our culture, such as music, tobacco and mojito, we want to celebrate the sixty-five years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Romania, two countries geographically far apart, but united by their Latin roots and by the friendship between their peoples. Starting today, a bronze plaque in the iconic clock tower will indicate the distance and direction between Sighisoara and Havana - nine thousand three hundred and ninety-five kilometers - highlighting the path to the friends' home,' showed Déborah Leticia Ojeda Valedón, as cited in the release sent by the Sighisoara City Hall.
The inaugural event was accompanied by a Cuban cigar rolling show by level-9 torcedora Yula Alfonso, in collaboration with deluxe tobacco shop El Único.

The 'Havana' photo exhibition will be open for a month at the Sighisoara City Hall. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Dorina Matis; EN - writing by: Simona Klodnischi)
