Romania's national rugby team to play test matches vs Chile, Uruguay, Argentina XV in South American tournament

The Romanian national rugby team will play three warm-up matches in July, against Chile, Uruguay and Argentina XV, as part of the World Rugby summer tournament in South America, according to a press release from the Romanian Rugby Federation.
Thus, Romania will play the first match on July 5, versus Chile, in Santiago de Chile, at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez Pradanos, the second on July 12, against Uruguay, in Montevideo, at the Estadio Charrua, and the third will take place on July 18, against Argentina XV, the second team of the ''cougars'', in Buenos Aires, at the La Catedral stadium (Club Atletico de San Isidro).
The Romanian national rugby team is already qualified for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia, a qualification that was obtained following the matches of the European Championship, a competition in which the team finished in third place. Romania (20th in the world rankings) opens the July series of matches with Chile (21st in the world). This will be the third meeting between the two representative teams, the last match taking place in November 2022 at the National Rugby Stadium Arcul de Triumf in Bucharest, when Romania won 30-23. The first match between Romania and Chile took place in Valparaiso, Chile, with the victory also going to the ''stejarii'', 27-11.
Uruguay have become a traditional opponent of Romania, the two teams meeting us constantly in recent years. In fact, Los Teros are the highest ranked opponent of Romania in the World Rugby rankings in this series of matches (17th place). The last match between the two teams took place last November at the National Rugby Stadium Arcul de Triumf, when Uruguay won 23-21. So far, the two teams have met 14 times, with Romania winning nine of them, one ending in a draw, and four being won by the South Americans.
Romania will play their last match in July against Argentina XV, the country's second representative team. The two teams have met several times in the Nations Cup tournament, an international competition that Romania organized between 2007 and 2016.
In last year's World Rugby summer tournament, Romania traveled to North America, playing matches against the USA and Canada. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Mihai Tenea; EN - writing by: Bogdan Gabaroi)
