Acting president Bolojan: Romania will continue to be a logistics hub for Ukraine, as a means of support

Imagine din galeria Agerpres

Brussels, Mar 21 - AGERPRES special correspondent Florentina Peia reports: Acting president Ilie Bolojan on Thursday evening stated, after the European Council meeting, that Romania will continue to be a logistics hub for Ukraine, as a means of support for this country.

'We agreed to continue to support Ukraine financially and in terms of ammunition so that it will be able to resist in front of the aggressors, so that the front does not break, so that, when a ceasefire is finally reached, and we hope it will be as soon as possible - and today the Council welcomed the joint statement that the United States and Ukraine issued after the meeting they had - it will lead to a stabilization and a peace that will last and not just be a short period of ceasefire. This is the logic for which support is being provided to Ukraine. (...) Voluntary aid has remained in place and each state, depending on what will be further decided, will support this. As far as Romania is concerned, our country will continue to be a logistics hub for Ukraine, because maintaining Ukraine in a stable situation is de facto support for Romania as well. The danger is kept away from our borders,' Ilie Bolojan told a press conference.

He indicated that Romania will also participate in next week's summit in Paris regarding Ukraine.

'At least in the coming period, discussions will continue regarding this plan that Europe supports in order to strengthen its defence, including in order to support that, after the ceasefire in Ukraine, which we hope will be reached as soon as possible, there will be some guarantees, so that Ukraine's security will be ensured. And even if, as I said before, Romania will not send troops to Ukraine in any form, we will still participate in all these discussions, including the technical ones, which are related to the military area, because these aspects related to planning, strategies and which transit, for example, in Romania, need the respective data, so that the General Staff is informed of what is being considered. And we will participate in these discussions, this is what we agreed on and this is our position,' stated the interim president.

Ilie Bolojan participated, on Thursday, in the European Council meeting, held in Brussels. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Andreea Rotaru, EN - writing by: Cristina Zaharia)
